Thursday Note 10th March

March 10th, 2016

Dear Parents/guardians,

We hope you are well today as hopefully we will have some Spring like weather coming our way! Our news this week is as follows

  • Well done to 5th and 6th class who took part in a Junior Achievement event entitled Work it Out on Tuesday last in St. Patrick’s Comprehensive organised by the transition year pupils. Our pupils had to complete physical activities and then use their mathematical skills to solve problems based on these activities.

  • The Ceremony of Light will take place on Monday night next at 7p.m.in Mary Immaculate Church for pupils in 6th class making their Confirmation .Pupils must wear their school uniforms and be seated by 6.45p.m.
  • Next Tuesday has been deemed Proclamation Day. We will have a short celebration here in the school at 11a.m. and parents, grandparents and other family members are welcome to attend. Our celebration will culminate in the raising of the National Flag. If there are any family members who are or were members of the defence forces or reserves we would extend an invitation to them in particular to join in the celebration.
  • Swimming lessons will start after the Easter break for 2nd, 3rd and 4th classes. 2nd start on Tuesday 5th April, 3rd on Wed 6th April and 4th on Thursday 7th April. The lessons will run for 8 weeks.
  • Cycle training will start after Easter also for 5th and 6th classes on Wed 6th April. Pupils may bring their own bikes but they must have a lock to secure them to the bike stands. Bikes and helmets are provided for the training. There is a cost of €5 per child and this covers 6 weeks of training. The rest of the costs and subsidised by the Road Safety Authority and Clare County Council.
  • The Parents’ Association are holding an Easter raffle. There will be a prize of a large Easter egg per class. Tickets cost €2 per strip and are on sale at present with the draw taking place on Wed 16th March.
  • For the past few years the school has held an Easter Bonnet parade on the day we break up for the Easter holidays. If pupils wish they can design and make their own Easter bonnet/hat or an Easter tie. It must be made from recycled or found materials at home. Over the past few years we have had some amazing creations made from egg cartons, tin foil, cardboard etc. all found at home. if pupils do not wish to take part that is fine also. The Easter Bonnet parade will be held at 11a.m. on 16th March.
  • Tolas will close for the Easter holidays at 12p.m. on Wed 16th March and re-open at 9a.m. on Mon 4th April. We hope you and your family have an enjoyable break.

Kind regards,

Mary Dunlea Fitzgerald, Principal
