5th and 6th Class Visit to the Comp

March 8th, 2016

Today, 5th and 6th classes visited St. Patrick’s Comprehensive School to participate in a Junior Achievement programme with their Transition Year students.  We were divided into five different groups and each group worked on different stations. The idea of the programme was to see how big a part Maths plays in PE and sport. The five stations involved  basketball, bowling, soccer, ring-throwing and skipping activities. We had to tally all our scores for each activity and then get the average score for each group. Different groups performed better in different activities. We really enjoyed our visit and it was a nice experience to see the Comp and to work with some of their students. Big thanks to all the teachers and especially the students in the Comp and to Junior Achievement for inviting us to participate. We really enjoyed our day!

Mothers Day Art

March 4th, 2016

This week, 5th class made some agamograph designs for some really special people…our Moms!! Agamographs are pictures that look different, depending on what angle you look at them from. If you look at them from the left, you’ll see one picture, and if you look at them from the right, you’ll see another picture. Firstly, we  had to design two A4 pictures. We then cut each of these pictures up into 10 vertical strips.  We then got an A3 sheet of paper and folded it carefully into a fan shape with 20 strips of equal width. Finally, we glued all the strips on to the A3 fan. We had to glue them on every 2nd strip from alternating pictures. If you look at the finished article from the front, you may not see either picture, but if you move over to either side, you will see two different pictures. Can you read some of our messages?  We hope all our Mammies have a wonderful Mothers Day!!

6th Class Visit to Atlantic AirVenture

March 3rd, 2016

6th Class went to AirVenture as part of Engineers week in Shannon on the 2nd of March. The children got to experience the flight simulators and test their flying skills. They received a talk from the CEO of Shannon Airport Neil Pakey and from Paul Kennedy who works for All Around Composites. This was very interesting and worthwhile. The children also got to meet aircraft maintenance technicians from Lufthansa Tecknik and a Pilot. We had a great day and received lots of goodies! Thank you for a great day!
