Thursday Note 14th April 2016

April 14th, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are well this week. Our news is as follows:

  •  Literacy Lift Off started in Senior Infants this week. The pupils have been busy at work with their new books, familiar reading, word work and writing. The teachers involved have been very pleased with how well every pupil is working. Keep up the good work Seniors!

  • Thank you to the parents and staff members who donated unwanted clothing items to our clothes recycling on Monday last. A total of 275kg of clothing was collected.
  • We are celebrating Friendship Week this week. All classes are doing lessons on what a good friend is and they are linking this with artwork and music. Both of our Junior Infant classes worked together on Tuesday last to make Friendship bracelets. Third class have made wanted posters looking for a good friend. 4th class have written letters describing a good friend. Our Cruinniu tomorrow will celebrate Friendship week with many classes doing a performance of their songs on this theme. Don’t forget that you can check out our Students of the week every week on our school website www.tolasns.com.
  • Our book fair took place on Monday and Tuesday this week. Thank you to all the families who supported the book fair. The school will receive books from Scholastic as a result of the book fair which will add to our Accelerated Reader library and our Literacy Lift Off stock so we do thank you for supporting the book fair. Thank you also to the staff who helped organise and run this event.
  • Our boys and girls from 5th & 6th class participated in the FAI 5-a-side soccer competition yesterday in Lees Road. The competition was tough but both teams still managed to pull off some memorable results.  Congrats to all our boys and girls and huge thanks to Ms. O’Neill and Ms. Hogan.  We are very proud of you all!
  • Thanks to all families who have brought in Trocaire boxes. If there are any remaining at home you can still drop them into the school office at your earliest convenience.
  • There will be a preparation mass for pupils in 2nd Class who are making their First Holy Communion next month in Mary Immaculate Church this Sunday, 17th April at 11.00am. Pupils are asked to wear their school uniform and to be seated in their places by 10.45a.m.

Kind regards,

Mary Dunlea Fitzgerald, Principal
