May 26th, 2016

26th May 2016,

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are well this week and enjoying the better weather. Our news is as follows

  • Senior Infants went on their school tour yesterday to The Farmyard in Corofin. They had a great day . All the children got to milk the cow, groom the horse, feed a variety of animals, make butter and plant parsley. The weather was kind also and this made for a memorable school tour.

  • 22 pupils from 2nd class made their First Communion last Saturday. It was a beautiful ceremony and the pupils did themselves, their parents and their school proud. Thank you to Ms. Hackett and Fr. Arnie for all their hard work over the past year in preparing the pupils for First Communion. Thank you to the Parents’ Association and the parents of pupils in 3rd class who organised the Communion breakfast here in the school after the ceremony. Thank you also to the pupils in the choir and to Ms. Halliday who enhanced the ceremony with their beautiful singing.
  • The end of year Mass will take place on Tuesday 21st June at 11a.m. here in the school. Parents and grandparents are welcome to attend. We will also have a graduation ceremony for the pupils in 6th class who will be leaving us at the end of this school year. 6th class parents in particular may want to mark this date in their diaries.
  • Shannon Library is running its annual reading challenge again for the summer. The challenge is called Summer Stars and it is to encourage children to continue to read over the summer months. Each child receives a reading card and they are asked to read six books over the summer. They will receive rewards for books read and can fill out book review sheets which will be displayed in the library .All children who complete the challenge will be invited to a Certificate presentation ceremony in September.
  • The school calendar for the next school year 2016/2017 will be sent out today with this note. The calendar will also be available on the school website at www.tolasns.com.
  • The booklists will be going home today also for the next school year. If it is convenient for you we will accept payment for books up to the 30th June. Alternatively you may pay for the books when we return to school after the summer. We will not be in a position to give books out next September until we have received payment. We thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
  • The mobile farm will visit the school tomorrow and will set up in the school yard. Every class will be scheduled a time to visit and experience the farm at school !!!
  • St Tolas is closed to pupils for mid-term next week and will re-open again on Tuesday 7th June. I hope you have an enjoyable and restful mid-term and that the weather will be kind to us.
