Thursday Note 8th September

September 9th, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are well this week. Our news is as follows

  • Our new Junior Infants are really settling into “big school” this week and we are delighted with how well they are doing. From next Monday 12th Sept the Juniors will go home at the normal time of 1.40p.m. We would ask Junior Infant parents to come in the back gate or side entrance at the playschool when collecting as the school hall may be in use by other classes at this time.

  • Arnie will celebrate a Mass in the school hall at 11a.m. next Tuesday to mark the opening of the new school year. Parents and grandparents are welcome to attend if they wish.
  • A meeting of parents of 2nd class pupils who wish to make First Communion in this school year will take place on Thursday next 15th Sept in St. Aidan’s school at 7.45p.m. A short presentation on the Grow In Love programme used by schools for Religious Education will be given at this meeting. Parents will be asked by the parish to register their child for First Communion at this meeting also.
  • We would like to remind parents that we operate a healthy lunch policy here in the school. Pupils are not permitted to bring sweets, crisps, fizzy drinks or high sugar foods to school. The best drink for the day is water. A sandwich/roll/wrap with a healthy filling is best and fruit or veg sticks make a lovely snack option. We appreciate your co-operation in this matter
  • An updated contact information sheet went home this week. We would appreciate if you could fill this in and return it as it is vital that we can contact you in case of emergency. We also use one phone number per family for our text-a-parent service.
  • Can I remind parents to take due care and caution in the school car park both mornings and evenings. If you are parking up and accompanying your child into the school please do not cause an obstruction in the car park. If there are no spaces available the Gardai have informed us that you may park on the road as long as you do not cause an obstruction. Staff also use the car park and sometimes it is impossible for staff to get into the car park in the mornings as there are cars parked in the middle of the car park blocking empty spaces. Please drive very slowly in and out of the car park. Small children can be hard to see and all of us want to keep everyone safe.
  • 2nd class started Literacy Lift off this week. The pupils are working on their reading fluency, comprehension, word attacks skills and writing in an intensive way during this programme. All the teachers involved are very impressed with how well the pupils are working. Keep up the good work 2nd class!
  • Shannon Athletics Club have resumed training at the All Weather pitch on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6p.m.-7p.m. This club is open to children aged 7 years and up and cost €2 per session. Children need to wear runners/trainers and bring a bottle of water to the session.

Kind regards,

Mary Dunlea Fitzgerald,

Principal
