Thursday Note 22nd September

September 22nd, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Our news this week is as follows

  • On behalf of the pupils, staff and Board of Management of St. Tola’s N.S. I would like to extend our sincere condolences to James McNulty of 5th class and to his mother Fauzia on the death of James’ Dad Gerry who passed away following a long illness yesterday. Gerry’s remains will be reposing in Carrigoran this evening from 6p.m.-7.30p.m. and his funeral Mass will take place tomorrow at 11a.m. in John and Paul Church Shannon. Our thoughts and prayers are with James and Fauzia at this difficult time. Ar Dheis Dé go rabh a anam.

  • Congratulations to our boys and girls who represented St. Tola’s yesterday in Lee’s Rd. at the East Clare Schools Cross Country competition. We are very proud of all your efforts and everyone ran their best despite the dreadful weather conditions. Thank you to Ms. Burke and Ms. O’Neill who trained the pupils over the past few weeks.
  • In conjunction with Clarecare we are able to offer the Parents Plus programme for parents of children aged 6-11 years. This programme teaches positive ways of parenting and managing behaviour problems in young children. If you are interested an information and registration morning will take place here in the school on Thurs next 29th Sept at 10a.m. The facilitators will give an overview of the course at this information meeting and it may help you to decide if it would be of benefit to you. The cost is €10 for 8 weeks and all sessions will be held here in the school. If you would like to attend the information session next week it is important to book in by ringing/calling into the school office to book a place. Please see further details on the flyer attached to the back of this week’s newsletter.
  • Clare Family Learning will be running English classes for parents here in the school on Tuesday mornings from 9 to 11am. Classes are free and will start on Tuesday 4th October and run for 8 weeks.
  • Literacy Lift Off continues in Second class with the pupils really working hard on their reading fluency, comprehension, word attack skills and writing. All the teachers involved in delivering the programme are very happy with their progress to date.
  • Can I remind parents/grandparents who use the Tullyglass Court area to park when collecting pupils to exercise extreme care. If you are collecting your child and exiting via this way please hold onto your child. If you are turning or reversing in this area please exercise extreme caution as you may not be able to see a small child behind you. Also the grassy area should not be driven on. We thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Kind regards,

Mary Dunlea Fitzgerald, Principal
