Thursday Note 27th October

October 27th, 2016

Dear parents/Guardians,

We hope you are well this week as we head towards mid-term break. Our news is as follows

  • Thank you to the Order of Malta who provided CPR awareness training to the pupils in 4th, 5th and 6th classes yesterday. This is an important life skill for everyone and we were delighted that we could avail of this here in the school.

  • Pupils from 3rd and 4th classes took part in a football blitz yesterday in Wolfe Tones along with pupils from other schools here in Shannon. The pupils had a great day and represented our school very well.
  • Well done to our Girls’ football team who took part in the semi-final of the Cumann na mBunscol competition last Friday. The girls met a very good team in Crusheen N.S. and did not progress to the final this time. Well done girls! Thank you to Ms. Vaughan, Ms. Burke and Ms. Hehir for giving up their lunchbreaks over the past few months to train both the boys’ and girls’ teams.
  • Just a reminder again that the school will close to pupils on 15th November as all staff are required to attend In-Service training on the new Primary Language Curriculum on that date. You may want to note this date in your diary.
  • Our Halloween Fancy Dress Table Quiz will take place tonight at 6.30p.m.Thank you to all the families who have already booked tables. I understand that there are still a few tables available so if it suits why not put together a team this evening. Tables of 4 (2 adults, 2 children/1 adult and 3 children) cost €20. We will also be holding a fabulous raffle with some amazing prizes at the quiz tonight. Tickets cost 1 for €2 and 3 for €5. Thank you to all the parents who donated prizes for the raffle. It is greatly appreciated. Prizes include a voucher for dinner for two, beautiful children’s watches, a selection of cleaning materials, cosmetics and many more!!!We will detail all sponsors tonight at the quiz and in the next newsletter. It promises to a fun and spooktacular evening!!!
  • As mentioned last week Parent/Teacher meetings will take place on 22nd and 23rd Nov after school. Times will be sent out the week of the 7th November.
  • Hogan will finish in 3rd class tomorrow. We thank her for all her dedication and hard work since the start of the school year. We welcome Ms. Connolly back to school after the mid-term and I know she is looking forward to getting to know 3rd class.
  • Tolas will close tomorrow at hometime for mid-term break and re-open on Monday 7th November. I wish all pupils, parents and staff a safe and relaxing Halloween mid-term and look forward to seeing you back in school soon.

Kind regards,

Mary Dunlea Fitzgerald, Principal
