Maths Circles

November 18th, 2016

5th class were learning all about circles and their properties this week in Maths class. We learned many words such as compass, circumference, radius, diameter, arc, sector, segment and chord. We also learned how to measure the area of a circle….a circle is 3/4’s of the area of the square around it!! We learned how to use a compass properly and can now draw circles given particular dimensions. For art we made three different designs using circular patterns. Lennon even tesselated his pattern(see if you can pick his out).

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are well this week as we head into Winter. Our news is as follows

  • Following an appeal to the Department of Education and Skills an extra teacher has been sanctioned for St. Tolas for the remainder of this school year. Christine Hogan has been appointed to this position. Ms. Hogan will work between Junior and Senior Infants supporting pupils in the classroom alongside the class teachers and also working with small groups in the areas of  literacy, numeracy and language. Ms. Hogan will work closely with both infant teachers to plan the activities and learning for the pupils. We are delighted with this news and wish Ms. Hogan well.
