Thursday Note 19th October

October 19th, 2017

19th October 2017,

 Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are well and safe after Storm Ophelia. Thank goodness everyone in the school community was safe and sound. Our news this week is as follows

  • Thank you to the Parents’ Association for organising and running the cake sale last Friday. A total of €617.62 was raised for school funds. Thank you to the parents and pupils who baked and sent in such an amazing array of cakes and buns. Well done to all.

  • Our boys football team have qualified for the semi-final of the Cumann na mBunscoil competition and will play their match tomorrow (weather permitting) against Cloughleigh N.S. We wish them well. Come on St. Tola’s!
  • Siobhan Kelleher will return to teaching Senior Infants on Wednesday next following maternity leave. We thank Ms. Amanda Corry for all her hard work and dedication over the past few months and we wish her well.
  • Our spooky Halloween quiz will take place on Wednesday next at 6.30p.m. here in the school. Tables of four (2 adults/2 kids or 1 adult/3 kids) cost €20 can be booked through the school office. These will be sold on a first come first served basis as the hall can only take so many tables. There will be prizes on the night for the best dressed team as well as a raffle. Tickets for the raffle cost €2 per strip or 3 for €5. These will also be sold ahead of the night here in the school. Prizes include vouchers for Dunnes Stores, a voucher for the Shannon Springs hotel, vouchers for the Inn at Dromoland, One 4 All vouchers, a Back Baller, books, gifts sets and much more.
  • On wet days we allow parents to drive down into the lower car park if necessary. Please only drive down if the sign is moved. DO NOT DRIVE AROUND THE SIGN. Please take extra care and caution. Drivers should only be moving at 10km per hour or less as there are children also using this route into school.
  • Parent/teacher meetings will take place on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th November. A note with the times of your allocated meeting is going home today in your child’s schoolbag.
  • In St. Tolas we are working hard to improve attendance rates at school. A letter to explain how you as parents/guardians can help us to achieve this is going home to each family today via your child’s schoolbag.
  • PossAbilities Shannon is a new group recently set up by parents for parents and carers of children with a disability or chronic illness. They are hosting an information evening next Tuesday 24th Oct in St. Senan’s N.S. at 7p.m. All are welcome.
  • Tola’s will close for mid-term break next Friday 27th Oct at the usual time. School will re-open on Monday 6th Nov at 9a.m. Please note that St. Tola’s will be closed to pupils on 8th Nov as all teachers are required to attend in-service training on the Primary Language Curriculum on that date.
  • If pupils wish to dress up in their Halloween outfits on Friday next they may do so. Please make sure that they have warm clothes underneath as we will be going outside at breaktimes if the weahter permits. If they do not wish to dress up that is fine and pupils wear their school uniforms.

Kind regards,

Mary Dunlea Fitzgerald, Principal
