Thursday Note 14th June 2018

June 14th, 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are well this week as we head closer to the end of the current school year. Our news this week is as follows

  • Kathy from Shannon Vets visited Junior and Senior infants recently and she had invited the pupils to take part in an art competition. Congratulations to Jack Phelan in Junior Infants and Sophia Bridges in Senior Infants who won a prize in the competition. Kathy called in yesterday to present the pupils with their prizes. Well done to both of them.

  • Our school tours have been completed this week. 4th and 6th classes went to UL to the activity centre on Tuesday last and had a great action packed day. 3rd and 5th classes visited Pure Skill in Galway yesterday. 2nd class are off at King John’s castle in Limerick today and they will also be going bowling. Once again a big thank you to the Parents Association whose fundraising throughout the year meant they donated €1500 towards the cost of the buses. This brought the price down for every pupil.
  • Our annual Sports for All day will take place (weather permitting) next Wed 20th June. Parents /guardians are welcome to attend. The timetable will be posted around the school on the day. The emphasis for this day is every pupil taking part in a range of physical activities in a fun and enjoyable way. Each pupil will be assigned to a colours team and they can earn points for their team throughout the day. Points will be awarded for winning races/events, excellent participation, positive sporting attitude and being a good team player. We will be keeping a close eye on the weather all next week and hopefully we can go ahead.
  • 1st and 2nd classes will attend a blitz organised by Wolfe Tones GAA club tomorrow where they will play simple Gaelic games along with pupils from other primary schools in Shannon. (weather permitting). Pupils need to wear their tracksuits and runners and bring an extra drink of water with them.
  • Welcome to our new Junior infants who joined us today for a short while to meet with their teacher and to see their classroom. We look forward to getting to know them in September.
  • The end of year Mass will take place next Friday 22nd June at 11a.m. here in the school. Parents/guardians are welcome to join us. The 6th class graduation ceremony will take place after the Mass.

Kind regards,

Mary Dunlea Fitzgerald, Principal
