Thursday Note 13th September

September 14th, 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are well this week. Our news is as follows

  • Well done to all our new Junior Infants who are now staying for the full day up to 1.40p.m. They have settled in very well and are getting used to two lunches each day!

  • Our school policy in relation to birthday invitations states that pupils or parents are not permitted to distribute invitations here in the school. This can cause a lot of distress for pupils and it is also a distraction for the smaller pupils in particular when there is an invitation in the bag for the day. We appreciate your co-operation in this matter.
  • A meeting will take place next Tuesday evening 18th September at 7.30p.m. in St. Aidan’s school for parents of pupils in 2nd class who will be making their First Communion next May. This is a meeting for parents only. First Communion will take place on 11th May in Mary Immaculate Church for pupils from St. Tola’s N.S.
  • A meeting of parents of 6th class pupils who wish to make their Confirmation this year will take place in St. Aidan’s N.S. on Tuesday 25th September at 7.30p.m.  Confirmation will take place on May 30th at 3p.m. in Mary Immaculate Church
  • Any pupils who completed the Summer Star reading challenge are reminded to return their card to Shannon Library in order to receive their certificate.
  • 6th class went to visit Hastings Cottage yesterday as part of their local History education. Each pupil completed a questionnaire while at the cottage based on what they had learnt in class and what they could find out from a visit to this site. This building predates the construction of Shannon.
  • A Mass to celebrate the start of another school year will take place here in the school hall on Friday 21st September at 11a.m. Parents and family members are welcome to attend. For pupils who do not wish to go to Mass we make alternative arrangements here in school. Please let your child’s teacher know (a note in the school diary is fine) if you do not wish your child to attend this celebration and we will make alternative arrangements for them at this time.

Kind regards,

Mary Dunlea Fitzgerald, Principal
