Thursday Note 21st April 2016

April 21st, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are well this week as we enjoy the good weather. Hopefully it will last! Our news this week is as follows

  • Two fire officers came to the school yesterday to give a workshop on Fire Safety in the Home to 3rd class. This was very informative for the pupils.

  • Cycle training is continuing for 5th and 6th classes on Wednesdays. Some of the pupils have made amazing advances. All pupils are developing their road safety skills and their knowledge of bike safety.
  • The school held the second Annual Spelling Bee which is open to pupils in 5th and 6th classes. Following a very dramatic and exciting Spelling Bee Dylan Coughlan from 6th class qualified to represent the school in the County Final. There were some very tough words and we were all impressed with the level of spelling demonstrated overall. Well done to all the pupils!
  • We wish all the pupils in 6th class who are making their Confirmation on Friday all the best as they celebrate this milestone. The pupils have worked very hard this year getting ready for this occasion. We hope they enjoy the ceremony and have a lovely family celebration afterwards. Thank you also to Ms Vaughan and Ms Hogan for all their hard work in preparing the pupils from the start of the year for this special occasion.
  • Senior Infants are on week 3 of Literacy Lift Off and we are very pleased with how well they are working. The pupils are reading lots of new books, working on their word building skills and doing great writing. Keep up the good work Seniors.
  • Eamonn Andrews, School Photographer will be in the school to take photographs on Thursday 5th May if families wish this. A flyer is going out today with all the information.
  • As the weather is hopefully getting warmer just a reminder about school uniforms. Pupils are required to wear the school tracksuit on P.E. days with runners/trainers and the school uniform of grey pants/skirt, grey cardigan/jumper, white/blue shirt /polo tshirt and school tie on other days. Pupils are not permitted to wear football jerseys instead of the school shirt/polo tshirt. For health and safety reasons the jewellery that is permitted is a watch and stud earring. Earrings that hang down are not permitted as they could get caught in clothing and hurt your child particularly when they are in the playground. We thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Kind regards,

Mary Dunlea Fitzgerald, Principal
