5th Class Tour to Derg Isle Activity Centre

June 27th, 2017

Last Thursday, 5th class visited Derg Isle in Mountshannon for our school tour. We had a lovely morning and the sun stayed behind the clouds so we didn’t get sunburnt!! We spent the morning trying to summit various climbing towers. Some of us found it difficult at the start but got better at it as we grew in confidence. We then had a relay obstacle race which was pretty tough but we got through it in the end…despite drenching each other!! Finally, we all got to have a go zip-lining from one tower to another…it went so fast that it was scary at the start but fun to do at the same time. We stopped at a shop on the way home for some tasty treats!! Big thanks to Ms. Fleming for joining us and to John our bus driver who allowed us to eat on the bus and made sure we got home on time!!

Chicken Visitors to 5th Class

June 27th, 2017

We were delighted to welcome 7 eggs, an incubator and a cage to our school a couple of weeks ago. There was great excitement in our class as we waited for the eggs to hatch. Thankfully, all seven chicks hatched safely and it was really interesting watching them grow for the week while they stayed in our school. We couldn’t believe how quickly they grew! We brought them over to our classroom for a morning and we had some good fun watching them and playing with them. They need a full time toilet cleaner behind them to keep the place tidy…you’ll see how we tried to keep our tables clean using hand towels but this didn’t always work!! We had a little chicken race in the class before they left us. We thought we could encourage the chickens to their food like you would a dog, but we learned that chickens are quite headstrong and will only move and eat, when they want to!! Thanks to Ms. Hehir for organising their trip to our school.

6th Class Tour 2017

June 23rd, 2017

6th Class visited St. John’s Castle yesterday before going shopping in The Cresent Shopping Centre. We walked through the museum first learning about The Normans and the origins of Limerick City and the castle itself, before touring around the castle enjoying the sights of the city. We listened to monks telling us stories of ancient medicine, a musician playing various types of instruments for us but we all agreed the archery and sword fighting was by far the best!!! We then went to The Cresent Shopping Centre, 6th class stocked up on “Hoodies” for Secondary School and also presents for family at home not to mention the obligatory lunch at KFC!!!

The 2016/2017 year has been very busy and a lot has been achieved. The toilets beside the princpal’s office were refurbished last summer. The Board of Management intends to upgrade toilets in some of the classrooms during summer 2017. Our school website www.tolasns.com is a great location to learn about the school and we urge you to visit it for the latest information on what we do.
