4th Science Experiments

November 24th, 2016

In science in 4th class we conducted a number of experiments. The pupils had great fun doing the experiments and answering questions like Does an orange float? How to tell the difference between a raw egg and a boiled egg? Can we make a tornado in a bottle? Can we make oil mix with water? Can we bend a straw using water? Does sugar dissolve better in cold or hot water?

A Visit From the Carpenter

November 23rd, 2016

In Junior Infants we had a very exciting visit from a carpenter. The children learned about all of his tools and he even showed the children how to saw some wood.  He told the children that a carpenter is sometimes called a ‘chippie’ as they make chips of wood when they are working.  Some of the children wondered if the chips tasted good!!

The children learned about smooth wood and rough sandpaper and they even got a present of some sandpaper!  All the children had a go on the electric screwdriver and they felt some wood shavings.

The carpenter shared many interesting facts with the children such as, Joseph, the father of Jesus was a carpenter.  We will have to make sure our Joseph in the Christmas play has his tool belt!

Before he left, the carpenter gave the children a present of a sharpener and a pencil.  All in all it was a great visit and we hope to see the carpenter in our classroom again next year!
