Thursday Note

May 12th, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are well this week. Our news is as follows

  •  On Monday last we celebrated Europe Day here in the school as part of our Blue Star project. Every class had taken a country in the European Union to learn about and do a project on. The countries were France – Juniors and 5th, Spain-Juniors, Poland – Seniors, Netherlands – 1st class, Portugal – 2nd Class, Great Britain – 3rd class, Italy – 4th class, Greece – 6th class. Deputy Pat Breen T.D. visited the school to see the pupils’ projects and to see a performance by each class on their country. He was most impressed with the standard of the work and with all the information that the pupils had learned. He spoke to us about the importance of the E.U. in promoting peace across the continent. I wish to thank Ms. Brown for co-ordinating the project this year in the school and thank you to all the teachers for their hard work with the pupils.

  • A talk on Relationship and Sexuality education will take place on Monday evening next at 7p.m. here in the school for pupils in 5th class and their parents. Each pupil must be accompanied by a parent to this talk. The talk should last about an hour. We look forward to seeing you then.
  • Cycle training finished up for pupils in 5th and 6th classes yesterday. The pupils made great progress over six weeks training and hopefully this will lead to them being safer when out and about on their bikes.
  • Fleming will start her maternity leave from Monday next and we wish her well. Ms. Amanda Corry will teach this Junior Infant class for the remainder of the year.
  • We wish our boys’ basketball team well as they take part in the next stage of the Marian Keane memorial basketball competition. They will play Gaelscoil Donncha Rua in the quarterfinals on Tuesday next in the Gaelscoil. The boys have been very busy practising over the past few weeks and we have had Mike Hickey from Shannon Jets Basketball Club in to coach them for one of the sessions. Thank you to Ms. Fitzsimons, Ms. O; Neill and Ms. Brown for giving up their time to coach also.
  • On Friday 27th May we will have a visit by the Mobile Farm to the school. The farm will set up in the carpark and every class will get a chance to spend time with the animals and learn a little about life on a farm.

Kind regards,

Mary Dunlea Fitzgerald, Principal
