Thursday Note 16th June 2016

June 16th, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are well this week. Our news is as follows

  • Junior Infants went to the Farmyard in Corofin on their school tour last Tuesday. They had a great day. They got to milk the cow, feed the animals make butter and got in some playtime as well. 5th class have gone to Galway today and we hope they have a good day. Thank you to the Parents’ Association for their support for the school tours this year. They donated €1500 from fundraising towards the cost of the buses for the school tours this year. This helped to offset the cost of the tours for all pupils.

  • Our end of year school Mass will take place here in the school on Tuesday next at 11a.m. Parents and family members are welcome to attend. Following the Mass we will have a graduation ceremony for the pupils in 6th class where they will share some of their memories of their time in St. Tolas. 6th class will finish on the 30th June along with all the other pupils when we close for the summer holidays at 12p.m.
  • Tomorrow we welcome our incoming Junior Infants as they will be here in the school from 10a.m.-12p.m. to meet their new teacher, spend some time in their classroom and meet their new classmates. We look forward to getting to know them.
  • Next Thursday 23rd June we will hold our annual Sports for All day. (weather permitting although the long range forecast is looking good!!!) Each pupil will be given a colour for their team and we will let you know this early next week. As it is a busy day for your child please give them an extra drink (water is best). It is also a good idea to make sure they have sunscreen on as they will be outside for most of the day.
  • All pupils have now received their booklists for next year. If it is convenient for you we can accept payment for school books, book rental etc. in the school office before we close for the summer. It is school policy to issue receipts for all monies paid.
  • We send congratulations to Canon Brendan this weekend as he celebrates 60 years as a priest. He has spent 28 of those years here in Shannon. We wish him many more years of health and happiness.
  • End of year school reports will be posted out to all families early next week. If you have any query or question in relation to your child’s report please contact your child’s class teacher who will be happy to discuss this with you.

Kind regards,

Mary Dunlea Fitzgerald, Principal
