Thursday Note 6th October 2016

October 6th, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are well as we head into October. Our news is as follows

  • This Sunday a special Mass will take place in Mary Immaculate Church at 11a.m. to celebrate its Golden Jubilee. Bishop Fintan Monaghan will celebrate this Mass in the church and all are welcome to attend, especially pupils in the sacramental classes this year. ( Pupils are not required to wear their school uniform at this Mass). There will be light refreshments served afterwards in St. Senan’s school and again all are welcome.

  • Thank you to Christy Duggan of E.S.B. who organised that all Junior Infants would receive a High Vis vest recently. As the evenings get darker this is a useful item for pupils to wear for road safety.
  • Pupils from 1st-6th classes started the Super Troopers programme this week. All pupils received a free activity journal and family wall chart to encourage pupils to keep active and improve fitness levels. This programme will also be used in school at P.E. time and for busy breaks during the school day.
  • On Tuesday last pupils from 4th-6th classes visited Shannon Library for a re-enactment of the 1916 Rising. This session helped bring history to life for the pupils in an enjoyable way.
  • The Parents’ Association A.G.M took place on Tuesday evening last here in the school. The officers on the committee are Sara Marren O’Callaghan – Chairperson, Barbara Jordan – Secretary, Elaine Scilly – Treasurer and Janice Kelly – Assistant Treasurer. Last year the Parents’ Association donated €2035 to the school with €1500 of this money being used to offset costs for the buses for the school tours in every class. This reduced the price parents had to pay for their child’s school tour. Thank you to all involved in the P.A.
  • The Parents’ Association are organising a cake sale here in the school on Friday 14th Oct at 1p.m. Donations of cakes and buns will be gratefully accepted on the morning of the sale.
  • Tomorrow our Girls’; football team will play in a blitz n Kilkishen N.S. as part of the Cumann na mBunscol competition. On Monday next our Boys’ team will play in Stonehall N.S. We wish both teams well. Thank you to Ms. Vaughan, Ms. Hehir and Ms. Burke who have given up their lunchtimes to train the teams over the past few weeks.
  • Our clothes recycling collection will take place on Tuesday next. Bags of unwanted clothing may be left in the hall before 9.30a.m. on Tuesday morning.
  • Can I remind parents that dogs are not allowed in the school yard/grounds at any time due to health and safety concerns. We appreciate your co-operation in this matter.

Kind regards,

Mary Dunlea Fitzgerald, Principal
