Thursday Note 20th October

October 20th, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are well this week as we head towards the end of October. Our news this week is as follows

  • Thank you to the Parents’ Association for organising the very successful Cake sale last Friday. A total of €482.70 was raised. Thank you to all the parents who donated cakes and buns and also those who came along to the cake sale. We have bought new maths games for all classes and construction materials for the Infants to use in their Aistear programme with the money raised.

  • Our Halloween quiz takes place next Thursday at 6.30p.m. here in the school. Tables of 4 ( 2 adults/2 children or 1 Adult/3 children ) cost €20 and can be booked through the school office.
  • The school will close next Friday 28th Oct for midterm and re-open on Mon 7th Nov. Pupils may dress up if they wish for Halloween on this day. Please ensure that your child is warm as some costumes can be very light. If they do not wish to dress up pupils wear their school uniform as usual.
  • The school will close to pupils on 15th November as all staff are required to attend In-Service training on the new Primary Language Curriculum on that date. You may want to note this date in your diary.
  • Parent/teacher meetings will take place on Tuesday 22nd Nov from 2.40p.m. School will close to pupils on that day at 2.25p.m. to facilitate these meetings. Parent/ teacher meetings will also take place on Wednesday 23rd Nov after school. We will send out the day and time for your meeting after mid-term.
  • We wish our Girls’ Football team well as they play the semi-final of the Cumann na mBunscol football competition against Crusheen tomorrow.
  • This week we have been celebrating Maths week with a variety of maths related activities. All classes got to play Bingo during the week and many classes took part in a maths trail where they had to solve maths problems found around the school. Today 1st-6th classes will have a maths table quiz in the hall. All classes have displays of maths related art in the hall this week also. Well done to all the pupils and teachers on a fantastic maths week.
  • Can I remind parents that dogs are not permitted in the school yard for health and safety reasons. We thank you for your co-operation in this matter.

Kind regards,

Mary Dunlea Fitzgerald, Principal
