Thursday Note 17th November 2016

November 17th, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are well this week as we head into Winter. Our news is as follows

  • Following an appeal to the Department of Education and Skills an extra teacher has been sanctioned for St. Tolas for the remainder of this school year. Christine Hogan has been appointed to this position. Ms. Hogan will work between Junior and Senior Infants supporting pupils in the classroom alongside the class teachers and also working with small groups in the areas of  literacy, numeracy and language. Ms. Hogan will work closely with both infant teachers to plan the activities and learning for the pupils. We are delighted with this news and wish Ms. Hogan well.

  • Our Parent/teacher meetings will take place on Tuesday next (22nd Nov) and Wednesday next (23rd Nov) School will close to pupils at 2.25p.m.on Tuesday only to facilitate these meetings. We look forward to seeing you then.
  • Thank you to the parents who have returned their Christmas card orders. These will be sent off this week and we should have delivery of the orders in time for you to get writing those Christmas cards!
  • As the weather is getting colder please make sure that your child has a coat coming to school. On dry days pupils will be going outside to play at break times and will need a coat. It is a good idea to put your child’s name on the coat label as several pupils may have the same coat and they can get mixed up.
  • Can I remind parents to please take great care in the car park particularly in the morning. Winter mornings can be dark and wet and it can be difficult to see small children in the car park. Please do not cause an obstruction when dropping off or collecting pupils.
  • Pupils in 5th and 6th class will take part in a Science quiz tomorrow in St. Caimin’s Community School from 10a.m.-12p.m.. We wish them well.
  • Coaching in Rugby skills started yesterday for pupils in Seniors – 3rd classes. This will continue on Wednesdays for three more sessions.
  • Scratch Club started last Monday after school for 5th class pupils who wish to attend. This club will run for five weeks.
  • You may want to note in your diary that our Christmas class performances will take place on Tuesday 20th December. We will let you know times for each class performance closer to the date. We will also have our annual Christmas carol service on Thursday 22nd December.

Kind regards,

Mary Dunlea Fitzgerald, Principal
