Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are well as we head towards our mid-term break at the end of next week. Our news this week is as follows

  •  1st Class will finish Literacy Lift Off on Wednesday next. The pupils have worked very hard at their reading, word building and writing over the past few weeks and the teachers working with them have been very impressed. Keep up this great work 1st Class!

  • We celebrated Friendship Week last week with every class learning what it means to be a good friend. All pupils did beautiful artwork that is displayed in the hall and around the school. While it was very hard to pick a winner the following pupils put great effort and thought into their pictures/posters and were awarded a small prize for their efforts – Juniors – Kiki, Seniors – Leila, 1st- Lewis, 2nd – Maja, 3rd – Leah, 4th – Adam, 5th – Aoife and 6th -Khadija All classes performed a song/poem/rap on the theme of friendship last Friday at our weekly Cruinniu. Well done to all!
  • 2nd Class are busy preparing for their First Confession which will take place on Tuesday 28th February at 7p.m. in Mary Immaculate Church. Pupils wear their school uniforms for this ceremony. This will be a very special evening for the pupils and we wish them well.
  • As part of the Green Schools programme 5th class and the pupils on the Green Schools Committee will visit Shannon Recycling Centre on Monday morning to find out about the work of the recycling centre and the journey of electrical waste. They will have a tour of the facility and will get an opportunity to ask lots of questions.
  • All classes will cover the Stay Safe programme as part of Social, Personal and   Health Education this term. This personal safety programme aims to give children
  1. The skills necessary to enable them to recognise and resist abuse/victimisation
  2. Teach children they should always tell an adult about any situation they find unsafe, upsetting, threatening, dangerous or abusive
  3. Develop children’s self-esteem, assertiveness and self-protective skills.     Further information and lesson plans for all class levels may be accessed at staysafe.ie. Alternatively if you have any queries please contact your child’s teacher or the principal.
  • Tola’s will be closed for mid-term break next Thursday 23rd Feb and Friday 24th Feb. School will re-open as usual on Monday 27th Feb. We hope you all have a relaxing and enjoyable mid-term.

Kind regards,

Mary Dunlea Fitzgerald, Principal
