Thursday Note 4th May 2017

May 9th, 2017

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are well this week. Our news is as follows:

  •  Congratulations to our Green Schools Committee and all pupils and staff on being awarded our Green Flag on the theme of Global Citizenship-Energy and Fair Trade. Aoife Stack (5th) and Katie Nolan (6th) will represent the Green Schools Committee and the school today at the flag award ceremony in Galway along with Ms. Connolly and Ms. Hackett.

  • Our senior girls have started training for the annual camogie competition that will take place soon. They are training at lunchtimes and we wish them well.
  • Our school policy in relation to birthday invitations states that pupils or parents are not permitted to distribute invitations here in the school. This can cause a lot of distress for pupils and it is also a distraction for the smaller pupils in particular when there is an invitation in the bag for the day. We appreciate your co-operation in this matter.
  • The school will be organising a sponsored walk on 26th May next. The sponsorship cards will go home on 18th May (one per family). These must be returned by 25th May even if they have not been completed. More information will follow in relation to this.
  • On Saturday next, 6th May, First Communion will take place for the pupils in 2nd class in Mary Immaculate Church at 11a.m. We are asking pupils to be in the church by 10.40a.m. as the parish photographer wishes to take a class photo before the ceremony. He will not be available after the ceremony as he has to go to another two Communion ceremonies! We hope that every pupil making First Communion and their families has a lovely memorable day. It also looks likely that the weather will be kind to us on Saturday. All the families are invited back to the school for a cup of tea and a sandwich after the ceremony. This is kindly organised by the Parents’ Association and the parents of the pupils in 3rd class. The 2nd class pupils and their teacher Ms. O’ Neill have worked hard all year for this special day and we hope that they all enjoy it.

 Kind regards,

Mary Dunlea Fitzgerald, Principal
