Thursday Note 8th March 2018

March 8th, 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We hope you are well this week. Our news is as follows

  • On Wednesday and Thursday next we are very excited to have the Exploration Dome- Mobile Planetarium here in the school. Each class will get an opportunity to visit the dome and have a chance to interact with planets and stars in our universe. The cost of the Dome will be covered by monies raised by the Parents’ Association.

  • Yesterday pupils from 3rd-6th classes represented the school at the Clare Sportshall Athletics competition. The pupils did very well and we thank Ms. Hehir and Ms. McGuane for giving up their lunchtimes to coach the pupils over the past few weeks. Thank you to Ms. Hehir, Ms. Vaughan and Ms. McGuane for accompanying the pupils yesterday. The competition continues today for other schools and we won’t know until this is completed if we have qualified for the next round. Once again well done to everyone involved.
  • Today our girls from 5th and 6th classes will take part in the Marian Keane Memorial Basketball competition in Shannon Leisure Centre. They will play against teams from schools in Shannon and the surrounding areas. Our boys will take part in the same competition on Friday. We wish both teams the best of luck.
  • Wolfe Tones na Sionna have employed a new Games Promotion Officer called Mark O’ Donnell. He will be coaching here in the school starting on Tuesday next for Senior Infants, 2nd class, 4th class and 6th The focus will be on fundamental movement skills. The other classes will get coaching after Easter. They currently have coaching on Thursdays from Clare GAA.
  • The school photographer is due back to take class pictures for Junior Infants and 6th This was affected by the bad weather recently. He intends to be here on the week of 19th March and we will let you know as soon as the date is confirmed. Once the class photos have been taken all orders for photos will be processed.
  • Due to the bad weather last week World Book day was cancelled. We intend to re run this day on Friday 16th March next. Pupils may dress up as a character from a book if they wish. There is no need to go out a buy a costume for this – let your child use their imagination and use what they can find at home. If they do not wish to dress up that is fine and they can wear their uniform as usual. Please make sure that any costumes are weather appropriate.
  • On Thursday next 6th class will perform their play Annie agus Oliver in the Munster round of the Feile Dramaíochta in Glor in Ennis. We wish them the very best and have no doubt that they will do us proud. Go n-éirí an t-ádh libh!

Kind regards,

Mary Dunlea Fitzgerald, Principal
