4th Class School Tour

June 21st, 2019

4th Class traveled to Limerick on their school tour on Thursday June 13th. Our first stop was King John’s Castle, here we explored the medieval castle and sampled some activities is the courtyard such as archery.

We then went onto Thomond Park where we got to visit the museum, the dressing rooms and even got to go on the pitch. It was a great day out and fun was had by all!

First Class Write-A-Book 2019

May 12th, 2019

What an experience the children had during the Write-A-Book process this year. They learned to plan a piece of work, draft it, edit it (more than once) , illustrate it and publish their own text. We sent our books off to be judged by another teacher in West Clare and we enjoyed viewing their entries for the competition too. We had three winners from our class chosen to receive a presentation from the Clare Education Centre in the Auburn Lodge on Tuesday 7th May ~ Chloe Mullan, Daithi Lynch and Ruby McCormack. Once we received our books back the whole class was presented with their certificates by Ms. Fitzgerald at Cruinniu last Friday. The children also had the fantastic opportunity to have an ‘Author’s Presentation’ to every class in the school. They got to discuss their books with children from other classes. They had a fantastic afternoon! Thank you to all the parents who helped the children through the process.

Astro-Turf Playing Facility Fundraising

May 8th, 2019

St Tolas NS are working hard to develop an astro turf playing facility for our children. Our Christmas Concerts kick-started our fundraising drive and we were delighted to raise over €8,000 over the couple of nights. Fundraising for this project is ongoing and we are very grateful to our Parents Association and wider school community for their support in this initiative. A further €2,000 has been raised through various fundraising projects. Our goal is to raise €50,000 to cover the costs of the project. A yard redevelopment committee has been setup to discuss further fundraising ideas and to brainstorm ideas that might help us to reach our goal as soon as possible. This committee includes Ms. Dunlea-Fitzgerald, Mr. Quinn, Ms. Vaughan and Richard, Dara and Nicole from the Board of Management. Keep an eye out for thermometers on display around the school which will keep you updated on how much money we raise towards our astro-turf pitch. We are all very excited to be able to provide our children with such a fantastic resource which they will reap the benefits of for years to come!
